Too many birds!
There are too many birds! Just when I think I’ve made progress with birding - learning to identify one family or organizing another, a new bird shows up and sends me back to square one. Each surprise reminds me of the richness and diversity of our Bay Area’s birdlife. That mix of excitement and bewilderment keeps me coming back to birding, eager to learn more.

With so many birds to work through, where do we even start? One way of organizing birds on a large scale is what I will call the “banana not-banana” sort. More specifically for birds, the Passerine non-Passerine sort, let’s start with the Passerines!
